AXIS built the Spitfire range for surf foiling, and the 900 is the size most prone and wing riders land on. It carries 1,099 cm² across a 900 mm span for an aspect ratio of 7.25, putting it squarely in mid-aspect territory.

AXIS describes the Spitfire as a dedicated surf foiling wing, built for effortless turning, gentle predictable lift and confidence dropping in. The brand specifically says the wing not only handles breaches but encourages them.

Wingpassion tested the Spitfire 900 over several months and confirmed the numbers: 1,099 cm² of area, 900 mm span, aspect ratio 7.25, classified as mid aspect and intended for foiling in the wave.

SURF Magazin's test notes that the aspect ratio changes across the range, from 9.13 on the 1180 down through the smaller sizes, so the Spitfire family behaves differently size to size rather than simply scaling.

Pros & cons
  • Mid-aspect 7.25 ratio balances turning against glide better than a high-aspect wing
  • Elliptical outline with moderate chords turns predictably rather than abruptly
  • Handles breaches, which matters when you are foiling waves properly
  • Ten sizes in the range, so the family scales up and down cleanly
  • Only compatible with the AXIS Black and Black Advance fuselages
  • Needs slightly more speed to lift than a comparable ART wing, per Wingsurfer's testing
  • Aspect ratio changes across the range, so sizing up is not a like-for-like swap
  • USD 720 for the front wing alone before fuselage, mast and tail

How it surfs

Reduced foil thickness with wider chords is the trick AXIS used here. Thinner sections lift the top-end speed, while the greater chord keeps low-end lift usable, which is why the wing does not feel like a straight compromise between a carver and a glider.

Wingsurfer's back-to-back test against the ART series found the Spitfire needed a bit more speed to get going, but produced more lift once flying and allowed harder pushing through turns. That matches the mid-aspect brief.

Fuselage choice is not optional. The Spitfire only mounts on the Black and Black Advance fuselages, so riders coming from older AXIS setups need to budget for that swap alongside the wing.

Verdict

The size most surf foilers should look at first in the Spitfire range. It gives up some low-end lift against the ART wings and pays that back in turning and how hard you can push it once flying. Budget for a Black Advance fuselage if you do not already run one.
