Rob Machado's signature keel — a classic 1970s fish outline updated with a slightly straighter trailing edge for modern release. The reference Futures keel for fish, retro twins and the small-wave grovelers that defined the modern twin-fin boom.

Rob Machado's Rasta template is the most historically important keel design in the Futures line — the fin most commonly paired with his own Firewire Sunday, Seaside and Seaside & Beyond shapes.

The template keeps the long base and low-depth outline of a classic fish keel, with a slightly straighter trailing edge to release cleaner out of turns than a pure 1970s keel.

Pros & cons
  • Rob Machado signature — genuine keel-twin heritage
  • Long base delivers the speed-through-flat-sections feel keels are loved for
  • Cleaner release than a pure 1970s keel template
  • Fits any Futures-boxed twin — Firewire Sunday, Machado retro fish, Album twins
  • Slidey feel on steep waves — not the fin for hollow reef
  • Won't hold a hard rail as long as an MR-style upright twin
  • Twin only — no trailer included

How it surfs

Best matched with Firewire's Machado line (Sunday, Seaside in Futures boxes) and any retro fish shape. On modern performance twin-fins like the Album Twinsman, most reviewers prefer an upright twin (MR TFX or Machado twin+1) instead.

Sold as a twin only. For twin+1 with the same Rasta DNA, look at the Rasta Twin+1 (upright template, includes trailer).

Frequently asked questions

Rasta Keel vs Rasta Twin+1?+

Keel = long-base, low-depth, classic fish feel, twin only. Twin+1 = upright template with a small trailer, more thruster-like turning. Grovelers/fish → Keel. Performance twin-fins → Twin+1.

Will it fit an FCS box?+

No. Futures only. The FCS II equivalent is the Modern Keel.

Good for a first twin-fin?+

Yes — if your board is a fish or retro twin. For a modern performance twin like the Twinsman or Seaside, an MR-style upright template is a better first pick.
