The highest-area twin set in the FCS range, developed with Harley Ingleby: moderate sweep, a full tip and a long, robust base for drive, paired with a small stabiliser that adds control without killing the twin-fin release.

The Power Twin is FCS's answer to the main complaint about twin fins — that they slide when you load them up. FCS's own description is direct: it is the highest-area twin set in the range, "as a result, can be pushed harder through turns." The moderate sweep, full tip and longer base deliver drive and speed, while a lower depth value keeps the set manoeuvrable off the top rather than locked in.

It ships as a twin + stabiliser set, with the small centre fin adding control and stability when you want it. FCS designed the template in collaboration with Harley Ingleby for use on his asymmetric twin model, but recommends it across board types including fish, funboards and straight twin-fin shapes. It comes in S-M and L-XL in Performance Glass at $150 USD.

Pros & cons
  • Highest area twin set FCS makes — you can push hard through turns
  • Long base and full tip generate real drive and top-end speed
  • Lower depth keeps it loose off the top despite the area
  • Stabiliser included, so it runs as a twin or twin + 1
  • Fits fish, funboards, mid-lengths and dedicated twins
  • High area is a lot of fin for lighter surfers on small boards
  • Only two size bands — no fine-tuning between S-M and L-XL
  • Performance Glass rather than the stiffer premium composites
  • $150 is top-tier pricing for a twin set

How it surfs

The design logic is worth understanding before buying. Fin area drives hold; sweep drives how drawn-out the turn feels; depth drives how positively the fin locks in. The Power Twin maxes out area and base but keeps depth lower than you'd expect — so it holds through a hard bottom turn but still releases when you pivot off the top. That combination is why it turns up in twin-fin comparison videos as the 'drivey' option next to more upright templates like the MR Twin.

The stabiliser is the other half of the story. Run without it, the board keeps the loose, skatey twin feel. Run with it, you get closer to a twin + 1 with noticeably more control in steeper or faster sections — which is what makes this set a sensible single purchase for a board with three boxes.

Practical fit: this is a lot of fin. Heavier surfers and anyone riding a wide-tailed fish or funboard get the most from it. If you weigh under 70 kg on a small twin, a lower-area template will feel freer.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the FCS II Power Twin different from other twin sets?+

Area. FCS states it is the highest-area twin set in their range, with a longer base and fuller tip, so it can be pushed harder through turns than a typical twin without breaking loose.

Do you have to run the stabiliser?+

No. The set includes a small stabiliser centre fin that adds control and stability, but the board can be ridden as a straight twin if you want maximum release.

What boards suit the Power Twin?+

FCS recommends it for all board types including fish, funboards and dedicated twin fins. It was developed with Harley Ingleby for his asymmetric twin model.

Which size Power Twin should you buy?+

FCS offers S-M and L-XL. S-M suits surfers under roughly 80 kg; L-XL above that. Given the high area, lighter surfers on small boards may prefer a lower-area template.

How much does the FCS II Power Twin set cost?+

FCS lists the Power Twin + Stabiliser set at $150 USD in Performance Glass.
