How it surfs
Surf 'N Show tested a custom 5'6" x 19 x 2 1/4 at 26.2L (rider 5'9", 160 lbs) over six days in waves from 2 to 6 ft, as both a thruster and a quad. Their conclusion was that the board handled the bigger end of that window better than the 1–4 ft rating suggests, and they recommend it for intermediate to advanced surfers.
That's the useful nuance with the 3DX: DHD market it conservatively as a small-wave board, but the outline is close enough to a standard performance shortboard that it carries into head-high-plus surf. If your home break is soft most of the year with the occasional swell, that range matters more than the headline rating.
Sizing-wise, most surfers ride it a touch shorter and slightly wider than their standard shortboard. The 5'9" at 28.5L and 5'10" at 29.5L are the two most commonly stocked sizes for average-weight surfers.

- FCS II Accelerator — Adds drive if you take the 3DX into punchier surf.
Verdict
A small-wave board that surfs like a shortboard. Best for intermediate-plus surfers who want one everyday board that still works when the swell arrives.
