Rip Curl's most affordable full wetsuit — E3 neoprene with flatlock seams and back-zip entry. Built for warm water and first-time surfers, at a rental-fleet price point.

The Omega is Rip Curl's opening-price full wetsuit — flatlock seams instead of glued-blindstitched, E3 rubber instead of E4 or E5. It's the wetsuit surf schools buy in bulk and first-time buyers pick up when they're not sure they'll stick with surfing.

The trade-off vs the Dawn Patrol is clear: flatlock seams stitch through the neoprene, so cold water gets in. Fine for warm water and summer trips, insufficient for autumn.

Pros & cons
  • Lowest price of any Rip Curl full wetsuit — usually under $170
  • Back-zip entry is beginner-friendly
  • Flatlock stitching is durable and cheap to repair
  • A legitimate entry to the Rip Curl brand at a rental-fleet price
  • Flatlock seams let water in — not warm enough below ~17 °C
  • No thermal lining, no seam sealing
  • Stiffer E3 neoprene — noticeably less stretch than the Dawn Patrol

How it surfs

Retailer reviews are consistently positive — but every review notes the price context: 'great for the money' rather than 'great' in absolute terms.

For a first wetsuit on a strict budget, or a spare for road trips and lending to friends, the Omega does the job. For serious multi-season use, the Dawn Patrol is the better long-term buy.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Omega warm enough for autumn surfing?+

No — flatlock seams let cold water in. For water below 17 °C, step up to the Dawn Patrol (glued & blindstitched) or the Flashbomb line.

Omega vs Dawn Patrol — is the price bump worth it?+

Yes for most surfers. The Dawn Patrol's GBS seams add a full 2–3 °C of usable temperature range for about $50 more.

How long does the Omega last?+

1–2 seasons of regular use — flatlock seams eventually fail before the neoprene does. Rental fleets replace them yearly.
