The Channel Islands Happy Everyday is one of the most highly-rated all-round shortboards on the market — a hybrid you can grab on flat days, junk beachbreaks, and rippable head-high waves. Wide-point-forward with extra foam under the chest and a modern hip through the tail, it paddles easily but still turns like a proper shortboard.

The Happy Everyday is Britt Merrick's answer to "what if one board could handle everything?" Wide-point pulled forward, extra foam under the chest, a modern hip and a low-to-moderate rocker — paddle-happy from ankle-high mush, but with enough rail and release to be surfed like a real shortboard when the swell shows up.

Widely available in PU and Spine-Tek constructions. Spine-Tek adds a snap-back through turns and better ding resistance; PU keeps the classic Channel Islands flex.

Pros & cons
  • Extremely user-friendly in a wide range of conditions
  • Paddles well thanks to extra foam under the chest
  • Feels lively but forgiving on rail
  • Great step-down for advanced surfers
  • Not the highest-performance option in punchy surf
  • Can feel a touch corky in bigger waves
  • Popular — expect a wait at some retailers

How it surfs

Compared with the Pyzel Ghost and JS Monsta, published reviews put the Happy Everyday at the widest usable wave range of the three — the board most commonly recommended if you had to keep only one shortboard.

Best sized 2–3L above your standard high-performance shortboard. A 75–80 kg intermediate typically lands on the 5'11 (30.9L) or 6'0 (32.0L).

Recommended fin setups

  • FCS II Performer (Medium)Neutral all-round — the default recommendation.
  • Futures Rasta MediumSofter flex, easier to bank rail-to-rail in weaker surf.
  • FCS II AcceleratorStep up in drive and hold when the waves get more powerful.

Verdict

The reference all-round shortboard. If you can keep only one board in the quiver, the Happy Everyday is the board that will get ridden the other 300 days a year — genuinely user-friendly in weak surf, still lively on rail when it opens up.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Channel Islands Happy Everyday a good beginner surfboard?+

It is best suited to solid intermediate through advanced surfers. Beginners will find the rocker and rail line too responsive; a soft-top or a wider mid-length is a better first board.

What size Happy Everyday should I get?+

Ride the Happy Everyday 2 to 3 liters up on your standard high-performance shortboard. Most 75–80 kg intermediates land on the 5'11 (30.9 L) or 6'1 (33.1 L).

Happy Everyday vs Pyzel Ghost — which is better?+

The Ghost is a pure step-up for punchy, overhead waves. The Happy Everyday is a true daily driver you can ride from waist-high to head-high. Pick the Ghost for pumping days, the Happy Everyday for the other 300 days a year.

What fins work best in the Happy Everyday?+

A medium thruster set in the neutral-to-drive range — FCS II Performer or Futures Rasta Medium are proven matches.

Is Spine-Tek worth the upgrade?+

Spine-Tek adds a lively snap-back through turns and is more ding-resistant than PU. Worth it if you travel, surf daily, or want extra pop; PU is the classic feel.
