The FCS II Reactor is the neutral, all-round template designed for lighter, more compact surfers. Slightly smaller base and depth than the Performer, with the same balance of speed, flow and control — the reference default fin for surfers under 70 kg.

Best for
Lighter surfers wanting an all-round thruster feel

The Reactor is FCS's answer to a common problem: the Performer template scales beautifully for medium and larger surfers, but riders under about 70 kg can find it slightly draggy. The Reactor is that same neutral template with a smaller base and depth — same feel, right proportions.

It is the recommended default fin for smaller-framed surfers, groms progressing off soft-tops, and anyone in the 52–70 kg range shopping an FCS II board that shipped with generic fins.

Pros & cons
  • The Performer's balance of speed and control, sized for lighter surfers
  • Works across everyday shortboards, grovelers and hybrids
  • Softer feel than the Carver — more forgiving in average surf
  • Widely stocked in FCS II boxes worldwide
  • Overlaps with the Performer for medium-weight riders — pick one
  • Not the fin for heavier surfers or bigger, faster waves (go Performer L or Carver)
  • White Edition finish only in PC construction on FCS.com

How it surfs

FCS's own product copy positions the Reactor as "the ideal fin for the lighter framed surfer looking for a versatile and forgiving fin" — a positioning consistently echoed on retailer sizing charts (Boardcave, Cleanline Surf, Real Watersports).

The White Edition (2026 stock finish) is the current version on FCS.com. Older black/coloured Reactor PC sets from 2019–2023 are functionally identical.

Verdict

The Performer template, sized for lighter surfers. The correct default fin for anyone in the 52–70 kg range riding an FCS II board.

Frequently asked questions

Reactor vs Performer — which should I get?+

Under 70 kg: Reactor. Over 70 kg: Performer. Both use the same neutral template — the difference is size, not character.

Is the Reactor a beginner fin?+

It's ideal for progressing intermediates and lighter frames. Absolute beginners on soft-tops don't need aftermarket fins yet.

Will Reactor fit a Futures box?+

No — FCS II only. The Futures analogue is the AM2 or an equivalent smaller-template thruster.
